Representative Achievements

(1)  Design and synthesis of several types of novel chiral tridentate spiro pyridine-, oxazole-, and thioether-aminophosphine ligands based on chiral “privileged” spirobiindane backbone, and find their chiral spiro iridium catalysts are highly efficient and enantioselective for the asymmetric hydrogenation of a wide range of substrates including ketones, b-ketoesters, and a,b-unsaturated ketones.

(2)  Development of a range of highly efficient asymmetric hydrogenations via kinetic/dynamic kinetic resolution, providing new efficient methods for the enantioselective synthesis of structurally diverse chiral alcohols, especially those with contiguous stereocenters.

(3)  Establishment of several efficient strategies featuring asymmetric ketone hydrogenations for constructing polycyclic chiral structures bearing quaternary stereocenters, and achievement of the enantioselective total synthesis of many natural products including galantamine, gracilamine, goniomitine, and mulinane diterpenoids.
